The mother of the victim, Comfort Udoh, a mother who was fatally shot in a tragic incident nearly a decade ago, is demanding justice for her death, after the ex-police officer responsible for her murder continues to evade arrest.
Comfort Udoh, a devoted wife and mother of four, was killed on September 16, 2015, by Aremu Musiliu, a former police officer, during a botched extortion attempt at Ijegun Bus Stop in Lagos.
Comfort and her husband, Pastor Godwin Udoh, were traveling home after a church event when they were stopped by Musiliu and a group of officers who allegedly demanded a bribe of N2,000.
When Pastor Udoh explained that they did not have the money, Musiliu reportedly shot Comfort in the head, while also wounding Pastor Udoh in the shoulder and jaw.
The death of Comfort, which left her four children without a mother, shook the community and sparked outrage.
However, despite the public outcry, the case struggled to gain momentum in the courts, and Musiliu, who was initially granted bail, has repeatedly failed to appear for hearings.
Authorities have been unable to locate him, allowing the former officer to evade justice.

She publicly condemned the lack of progress in the case and demanded that Musiliu be brought to justice for the senseless killing of her daughter.
In an emotional statement, Comfort’s mother called on the public to support the Udoh family in their quest for accountability.
“Ten years without justice is a betrayal to my daughter’s memory and a failure to uphold the law. I want Aremu Musiliu found and punished for what he did to my daughter and my family,” said the grieving mother.
Pastor Godwin Udoh, who has struggled financially since his wife’s death, also reiterated the need for justice.
“We have lived without peace for too long. My children have suffered, and we’ve been left without closure. I urge those who can help us to stand with us as we demand that Musiliu face the consequences of his actions,” Pastor Udoh said.
In April 2025, the prosecution filed an official request for Aremu Musiliu to be declared a fugitive after he repeatedly failed to attend court hearings.
Justice S.I. Sonaike of Court 29, Criminal Division, granted the request, ordering the police to apprehend Musiliu and bring him before the court.
The case has gained widespread attention, and many local community members and church members are rallying behind the Udoh family.
They are calling for a swift and decisive response from the legal system to ensure that Comfort’s death does not go unpunished.
