There was panic on Wednesday after a fire broke out at the National Assembly Complex, Abuja, Nigeria, causing alarm inside the Senate wing of the building.
The incident happened at Hearing Room 107 shortly after the Senate Committee on the Niger Delta Development Commission finished the screening of Dr. Zainab Marwa, a nominee representing the North-East on the board of the commission.
The fire was said to have started from the kitchen area inside the hearing room. It was quickly put out before it could spread to other parts of the Senate wing.
Senators Asuquo Ekpenyong and Salihu Mustapha were among those who stepped in to help control the situation, which prevented further damage.
According to reports, a microwave was left on in the kitchen section and may have triggered the fire.
No one was injured, and normal activities continued after the fire was put out.
Journalists at the scene were later asked by officials to delete photos and videos taken during the incident.
