The late Sardaunan Sokoto served as Nigeria’s Minister of Finance between 1990 and 1991 during the administration of former Head of State, General Ibrahim Babangida.

He also held other key positions, including Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom.

His death was followed by the passing of Ibrahim Aliyu, a former Deputy Governor of Kebbi State, who died in Sokoto after a prolonged illness.

Aliyu served as deputy governor under former Kebbi State Governor Saidu Usman Dakingari between 2007 and 2015.

Before joining politics, he had a career in public service and was regarded as one of the respected figures from the Yauri Emirate.

Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris expressed sadness over Aliyu’s death, describing him as a leader who contributed to the development of the state through his years of service.

The governor said the former deputy governor would be remembered for his humility, integrity and commitment to public service, while praying for comfort for his family and the people of Kebbi State.
