How Tinubu almost lost 2023 presidential election – Wike

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has recounted how President Bola Tinubu almost lost the 2023 presidential election due to serious problems caused by the previous administration.

He said the fuel crisis and the naira redesign policy nearly ruined Tinubu’s chances at the polls, making it a tough race that could have ended badly for him.

Wike shared these views during a media chat in Abuja on Friday, where he spoke openly about the challenges that shaped the last election and the future of Tinubu’s leadership.

According to him, some of the decisions taken by the former All Progressives Congress (APC) government just before the elections were not in Tinubu’s favour.

The scarcity of fuel and cash made life hard for Nigerians and created tension across the country, putting Tinubu at risk of losing.

Despite the pressure, Wike said Tinubu still managed to win, which showed his ability to survive political storms.

He said Tinubu’s success wasn’t just luck, but a result of experience, strategy, and support from key players.

Looking ahead, Wike said Tinubu will remain in office until 2031.

He explained that nothing would change his mind about this, and he strongly believes in Tinubu’s leadership for the next eight years.
