The Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has lost her mother, Hajiya Ladi Binta Musa Musawa, who died after a period of illness in Abuja.
The Musawa family announced her passing on Saturday, saying she died in the Federal Capital Territory hours after the minister returned from Lagos, where she had attended an art and culture exhibition.
In a statement, the family said: “With total submission to the Will of Almighty Allah, we announce the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Hajiya Ladi Binta Musa Musawa, today, 13th June 2026.”
The family prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for the deceased and asked for strength to bear what it described as an irreparable loss. It also announced that the Jana’iza prayer would be held after the Zuhr prayer at the National Mosque in Abuja.
Musawa also confirmed the death in a social media post, informing the Muslim community and well-wishers of the funeral arrangements.
“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah of Salatul Janazah (Funeral Prayer) at the National Mosque, Abuja,” the minister wrote, while praying for Almighty Allah to grant her mother Aljannatul Firdaus.
According to the minister, the funeral prayer was held at the National Mosque, while the burial followed at Gudu Cemetery in Abuja.
The loss comes a little over three years after the death of Musawa’s father, Musa Musawa, a veteran politician and respected political figure in Katsina State, who died on March 7, 2023, at the age of 85 after a prolonged illness.
Condolence messages have continued to pour in from government officials, political associates, cultural stakeholders and friends of the family, many describing the late Hajiya Ladi Musawa as a devoted mother, grandmother and woman of faith.
