Founder of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has warned young Nigerians against relying on sports betting to achieve financial success, describing it as a dangerous distraction that could derail their future.
Speaking during a sermon on Sunday, the cleric urged youths to embrace hard work and patience, insisting that lasting prosperity comes through diligence rather than gambling.
“Young people, naija bet is not the way to financial fortune. Stop wasting your destiny, stop wasting your time. I have never been once deceived. Stop!” he said.
Oyedepo acknowledged that success may not come immediately but maintained that those who remain committed to the right path would eventually reap the rewards.
“Things may be slow, but it is sure,” he said.
The bishop also reflected on his Christian journey, recalling how he bought a car for the woman who introduced him to Christ when he was 15 as an expression of gratitude decades later.
“My mother of faith led me to Christ at 15. When I turned 60, I got her a car that they took to her place in the U.S., she wept. You had better wake up,” he said.
His remarks come amid growing concerns over the rising popularity of sports betting among young Nigerians, with religious leaders and social commentators repeatedly warning about its financial and social impact.
