Senate To Approve New Commissioners (FULL LIST)


President Bola Tinubu has formally requested the Senate to screen and approve five nominees for the position of Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) in the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The request was presented in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

The nominees include:

Umar Yusuf Garba (Kano State)

Saad Umar (Bauchi State)

Chukwuemeka C. Ibeziako (Anambra State)

Umar Mukhtar (Borno State)

Dr. Johnson Alalibo Sinikiem (Bayelsa State)

President Tinubu cited Section 154(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) as the basis for their nomination.

He also clarified that this letter replaces a previous one issued on March 12, as he has now approved Umar Mukhtar’s reappointment for a second term as Borno State’s REC.

The President urged the Senate to review and confirm the nominees promptly.
