Tinubu announces fresh appointments
President Bola Tinubu has approved new leadership changes in several education agencies under the Federal Ministry of Education, covering the National Examinations Council (NECO), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and the National Library of Nigeria.
Prof Modupe Adeola Adelabu has been named as the Chairman of the Governing Board of NECO. The President also kept Prof Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as the registrar of the examination body.
At the National Board for Technical Education, Prof Babatunde Salako has been appointed as the new chairman. The current Executive Secretary, Prof Idris M Bugaje, was also confirmed for another term.
For the Federal Polytechnic N’yak-Shendam, Engr Dr Bongfa Binfa has been appointed as the new rector. He takes over after the end of the tenure of the pioneer rector, Dr Mukaila Zakari Ya’u. His appointment is for a single term of five years.
At the National Library of Nigeria, Prof Chinwe Veronica Anunobi has been reappointed as the Director and Chief Executive for another five years. She first assumed office in 2021 and will continue to lead the institution.
The new appointees come from different academic and professional backgrounds. Prof Adelabu is a retired professor of educational administration and former deputy governor of Ekiti State.
Prof Salako has long experience in research and higher education administration, including his time at the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research.
Dr Binfa, an engineer with a doctorate from Malaysia, previously served in senior academic roles in federal polytechnics. Prof Anunobi has been involved in reforms at the National Library, including digital projects and plans to improve access to national records.
