EndSARS Memorial: We will never forget – Youths Vow as they mark 2 year anniversary

Nigerian youths have marked the memorial of the EndSARS protests which ended 2 years ago on the 20th of October 2020 with the massacre at Lekki Toll Gate.

Youths have taken to social media to declare that they will never forget those who fought, those who died, those who marched and those who spoke out during the fight against police brutality.

EndSARS MemorialHistory of Protest

Recall that thousands of youths had marched across the country for about two weeks in protest of the brutality from the defunct Special Anti-Robbery Squad (Sars).

The Government had eventually disbanded the squad but the protests were later attacked by hoodlums. Eventually the events culminated at the Lekki toll gate where soldiers are believed to have opened fire on defenseless citizens.

The government set up judicial panels of inquiry to investigate the widespread allegations of abuse by officers.

According to Amnesty International, at least 56 people died across the country during the protests.

One year after the National Economic Council chaired by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo directed states to pay compensation to the victims of police brutality in the country, indications show that many states have yet to comply with the directive.

According to reports only Lagos, Osun, Ekiti and the Federal Capital Territory have complied with the NEC resolution.

All states and the FCT with the exception of Yobe, Borno, Jigawa, Kano, Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara failed to set up panels.

Here are some reaction as gathered by Dockaysworld across social media, read them below;
