Azeez Adeshina Fashola aka Naira Marley is an Indigenous rapper born on the 10th of May, 1991 in Agege, Lagos. As of 2025, he is 32 years old.

He relocated to Peckham in South London, UK at the young age of 11.

He was raised with his brother and sister, Maria Fashola, who are also popular in the entertainment industry.

For his high school education, he attended Porlock Hall and later enrolled at Warworth School, where acquired a GCSE certificate.

His music career began way back in 2012. He was inspired to sing by his friends and released “Marry Juana” in 2014. His career finally took off in 2018 after he released “Issa goal”.

It all started in 2019 when Naira Marley decided to play “defender of Yahoo boys” on Instagram.

He probably thought it was just another regular post until the EFCC decided to bring him in for questioning.

Barely a week after dropping his now-infamous single “Am I A Yahoo Boy”, EFCC operatives swooped in and arrested Marley alongside his friends Zlatan, Tiamiu Kayode, Adewunmi Moses, and Abubakar Musa.

Five days later, Zlatan and the others regained freedom, but Marley wasn’t so lucky. Charged with 11 counts of fraud, he spent some time in jail before securing ₦2M bail. He turned his experience into music, releasing “Why” while still behind bars and later “Soapy”.

From Ijo Soapy to Car Theft Drama

Barely months after regaining freedom, he found himself back in the headlines, this time for alleged car theft.

The story broke in December 2019 when reports surfaced that the singer, alongside two of his brothers and some crew members, had allegedly assaulted one Mr. Adelekan Ademola.

According to the complaint, the incident happened in Lagos when the group was driving in a convoy. The victim claimed that one of Marley’s boys snatched his phone and car keys during an altercation, after which the car was driven off.

The police soon filed charges against Naira Marley and his brothers before a Lagos magistrate court. But true to form, the singer didn’t even bother to show up in court. Instead, he took to social media to mock the allegations, saying there was no way he’d ever “steal a Toyota Camry.”
