Over 800 people have been killed following a massive earthquake in Morocco

  • The Ministry of Interior in Morocco says 820 people are dead and 672 are injured
  • Efforts are still underway to rescue as many lives as possible following the 6.8 magnitude earthquake

On Friday night, a 6.8 magnitude earthquake rocked the country of Morocco leaving over 800 persons dead as of this morning.

The Moroccan interior ministry disclosed that 820 had died from the natural disaster while 672 people were injured.

Dockaysworld reports that the incident occurred in the High Atlas region, adjacent to the historic city of Marrakech.

It affected the provinces of Al Haouz, Ouarzazate, Marrakech, Azilal, Chichaoua and Taroudant.

The tremors were felt as far as Rabat and Casablanca on the Atlantic coast, where some residents fled their homes and spent the night on the streets.

Rescue and emergency efforts are underway to save as many lives as possible even as more condolences pour in. Authorities in Marrakech have called on residents to donate blood.
