President Bola Tinubu has sacked the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, and the Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Musa Dangiwa.
The decision was made public on April 21, 2026, through an official memo released by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, George Akume.
The document confirmed that Mr Edun would be replaced by Taiwo Oyedele, who has now been moved up to take charge of the finance ministry and oversee the country’s economic coordination. Before this new role, Oyedele served as Minister of State in the same ministry.
The statement also revealed that Muttaqha Rabe Darma has been picked as the incoming Minister of Housing and Urban Development. Following the directive, Dangiwa is to hand over his duties to the Minister of State in the ministry while waiting for the necessary confirmation process to be completed.
According to the presidency, all transfer of duties must be completed on or before April 23, 2026, to ensure a smooth transition in both ministries.
The government explained that the reshuffle is part of its plan to improve how the cabinet functions, especially in handling the country’s economic matters. It stated that the move is intended to improve coordination among government officials and deliver better results to Nigerians under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Akume noted that the president carried out the changes using the powers granted to him by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He also mentioned that the administration will continue to adjust its team where necessary to improve performance.
President Tinubu appreciated the contributions of the outgoing ministers and wished them well in their next steps, while assuring Nigerians that efforts are ongoing to make the government work more effectively.
